Microsoft Warns China Plans To Disrupt Indian Elections Using AI

Microsoft, one of the biggest software companies, has warned that China can use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tamper with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India. Recently, China used AI to influence the results of Taiwan’s presidential election.

Microsoft’s threat intelligence team has said that cyber groups supported by the Chinese government can target many elections to be held this year with the help of North Korea. In these elections, China can conspire to change public opinion by making content prepared by AI viral through social media.

Microsoft has said in a statement, “There are many big elections to be held this year all over the world. These include elections in India, America and South Korea. We believe that China can use content generated by AI to benefit its interests.” Regulations related to AI can soon be brought under legal ambit in the country. For this, there is a plan to prepare a regulatory framework after the Lok Sabha elections.

Electronics and Information Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw has told in an interview to a business newspaper that AI There is a plan to create a regulatory structure for this. He said, “There was an idea to create a regulatory body for this but we do not think this will be enough. We believe that this regulation should be done in a legal manner. We have discussed this with the industry. After the elections, we will formally start the consultation process to move towards making a law.” Ashwini said that the regulations will be balanced and it will be ensured that the creativity of innovators is not harmed. With the increase in the use of AI last year, problems like Deepfake also came to the fore. After this, the government had warned the social media platforms Facebook and YouTube about it.
