AI Scam taking New Turn, Scammers trying to extort ransom by impersonation Policemen

In the last few months, cases of scams using Artificial Intelligence (AI) have increased. In this, attempts are being made to cheat people by cloning their voices. In a similar case, a fraudster tried to cheat a woman by posing as a policeman. However, due to the intelligence of this woman, the fraudster failed.

When I picked up this call, a person called me and told me that my daughter was in danger. On this call, I made him talk to someone by imitating his daughter’s voice almost exactly. This made me a part of this scam. AI is found to be using the . Kaveri said, “I received a call from an unknown number. Usually, I don’t pick up calls from unknown numbers but I answered this one. A man on the other end said he was a policeman and asked me if I knew where my daughter was.”

Kaveri was told by the man that her daughter was arrested because she, along with her three friends, had made a video of an MLA’s son in an objectionable position and tried to blackmail him. Kaveri soon realised that she was being scammed and started recording the call. She then requested to speak to her daughter. Kaveri said that this made the man angry. However, he played a recording in which a girl with a voice similar to her daughter was pleading for help. The fake cop demanded money from her to release her daughter and hush up the matter. When Kaveri asked him to let her talk to her daughter properly, he got angry.

The fraudster told Kaveri that he was taking her daughter away. Kaveri said, “I said he can take her away and I started laughing. After this the person disconnected the call.” Kaveri said that this was an attempt to cheat her by imitating her daughter’s voice using artificial intelligence.
