India has climbed three places to 18th rank in terms of mobile network download speed at the global level. The biggest reason behind this can be the very fast distribution of 5G networks in recent years. Ookla releases its ‘Speedtest Global Index’ report every month. In this report, countries are ranked on the basis of the average download speed offered by them. However, in terms of broadband download speed, the country has slipped two places to 87th rank.

Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index in January 2024 Report India was ranked 18th in January. India jumped 3 ranks month after month and is now among the top 20 countries. In terms of mobile download speed, the country is rapidly moving towards the top 10 month after month. The average mobile download speed in India in January was 99.03 Mbps.

In the list, UAE was also at the top in January with an average speed of 302.38 Mbps. The other two countries in the top 3 were also Arab countries, in which Qatar was in second place with a speed of 285.84 Mbps and Kuwait was in third place with 196.94 Mbps. After this, China was in fourth place with a speed of 164.58 Mbps and Denmark was in fifth place. Let us tell you that these five countries have maintained their position for the last several months.

In the race for the top 10, India is currently behind Canada, Sweden, Bulgaria, Macau, Finland, the USA and Saudi Arabia.

Before the launch of 5G, in September 2022, India was ranked 188th on the Ookla Speedtest Global Index with an average download speed of 13.87 Mbps.

However, the country is not making much progress in terms of broadband download speed. According to the global index for the month of January, India was ranked 87th in the list. It has dropped two places month after month. According to the index, the average broadband download speed in India in January was 60.45 Mbps.

In terms of broadband, our neighbouring country China was at the fifth position with a speed of 259.70 Mbps. If you are looking for Pakistan in this list, then let us tell you that on the mobile index, Pakistan was at the 124th position with an average speed of 16.71 Mbps and in the broadband list it was at the 150th position with a speed of 13.95 Mbps.
