Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s generative AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT, has become quite popular among people for some time now, as it solves many of their dilemmas in a jiffy. From school homework to writing office emails, it can do everything. However, now this AI chatbot is in the headlines for violating privacy, as a user has claimed that it has leaked the conversations of some users.

A review from ArsTechnica Report According to, a ChatGPT user shared screenshots showing how the chatbot is leaking people’s chats. The pictures show that the chatbot is also leaking sensitive information like usernames and passwords. The report states that the user who shared the screenshot accessed ChatGPT for a query, but he saw chats of some other users in that chat history, which were not related to him.

The screenshot shows that another user in the chat history was attempting to troubleshoot issues through the support system used by staff at the pharmacy prescription drug portal. The chat also contained the name and store number of the app and additional login credentials.

Another leaked conversation included the name of a presentation another user was working on. It also included information about an unpublished research proposal.

In response, ChatGPT said that this happened because the account of the user who shared the screenshot was compromised. The company further stated that the unauthorized logins came from Sri Lanka, while the user said he logs into his account from Brooklyn, New York.

In its statement to the website, the company said, “What we found is what we believe to be an account takeover. Investigation found that conversations were recently made from Sri Lanka. These conversations are in the same time frame as successful logins from Sri Lanka.”

While the user has changed his password, he suspects that his account was compromised. In a statement to the website, the user said that he used a nine-character password with uppercase and lowercase letters and special characters. He said that he did not use it anywhere else except for his Microsoft account.
