Apple Main Supplier Foxconn Hiring Practices, Says no Discrimination in Iphone Assembling Jobs

Foxconn, a contract manufacturer of American devices maker Apple, has denied discrimination in hiring in the country. Foxconn was accused of not giving jobs to married women in its iPhone assembly factory. The central government had ordered an investigation into this matter. iPhone manufacturing has grown rapidly in the country in the last few years.

Foxconn’s chairman, Young Liu, said, “The company does not discriminate on the basis of gender. Our workforce comprises a large number of women. Married women make a significant contribution to our operations.” The company’s factory is located near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. It had admitted to some irregularities in hiring two years ago. Foxconn had said that it has worked to solve this problem. However, Foxconn also said that it completely denies the allegations of discrimination in employment.

A Reuters report in June Report In 2015, it was reported that married women were being denied jobs at Foxconn’s factory. Regarding this, Regional Labor Commissioner, A Narasaiah had said that a team of the Labor Department had talked to the company’s directors and executives of the Human Resources Division. Apple And Foxconn did not respond to questions sent by Reuters. The central government had sought a detailed report from state authorities in this matter.

Discrimination in employment on the basis of gender is illegal in the country. A Reuters investigation had revealed that Foxconn has refused to give jobs to married women in its factory. In this regard, a former HR executive of Foxconn, S Paul had said that Foxconn generally does not employ married women due to cultural issues and social pressure. The company believes that many problems arise after marriage. Last year, Foxconn received approval to invest one billion dollars in its factory in the country. This will enable it to move forward with its plan to build a large manufacturing hub for Apple products outside China.
