According to a PTI report, Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai has said that a meeting was held with scientists of IIT-Kanpur to make artificial rain in Delhi. Scientists say that ‘cloud seeding’ can be tried only when there is moisture or clouds in the atmosphere.
Gopal Rai said, experts estimate that around 20-21 November, such conditions may arise when there may be humidity or clouds in the atmosphere of Delhi. According to Rai, he has asked the scientists to prepare a proposal by Thursday. The proposal will be submitted to the Supreme Court.
what is artificial rain
‘Cloud seeding’ is used to make artificial rain. In this, various substances are spread in the air to increase condensation. This causes rain. The substances used in ‘cloud seeding’ include silver iodide, potassium iodide and dry ice (solid carbon dioxide). This technique has been used in many countries of the world. America, China, Australia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have already used cloud seeding. Cloud seeding is also done to deal with drought.
This is how artificial rain is made
According to a media report, the solution of ‘cloud seeding’ is sprayed in the sky in the opposite direction of the wind with the help of an airplane. The particles present in the solution reach the sky and settle down. After this, it rains.
Approval will have to be taken from the center and the state
According to the report, Gopal Rai has said that getting approval from both the central and state governments for the use of this technology is a time-sensitive matter. Scientists from IIT-Kanpur had given a presentation on artificial rain to Gopal Rai and his team this year.
