of NDTV AccordingPeople driving dangerously on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway are being fined in a new way, in which Gurugram Police is using drones equipped with advanced technology and cameras. Auto-drones equipped with special optical cameras can take clear pictures of vehicles up to 2 kilometers away. This state-of-the-art feature not only helps the drones to identify vehicles, but also gives the advantage of zooming in accurately on the license plate numbers. This is different from the traffic cameras installed on the sides of the road, which issue challans while working in a limited range.
Reports suggest that upon detecting a violation, these drones immediately inform police officials present on the spot, leading to the offending vehicle being stopped and a fine being imposed.
A total of 8,377 fines have been imposed so far under these drones, amounting to ₹ 74,92,900, implemented from December 1. The fines have been imposed on various vehicles, including 7,060 trucks, 675 passenger buses and 239 buses associated with educational institutions.
These drones, flying on set routes based on pre-decided timings and locations, hover over the traffic, establishing a comprehensive monitoring network to effectively enforce traffic rules.
This year, 402 deaths and 945 accidents were recorded between January 1 and December 19. In such a situation, this initiative can work to reduce the increasing number of road accidents in Gurugram.
