Google to layoff Employees from News Division, Will reduce New Hiring

[ad_1]

Global technology company Google has once again decided to lay off employees. This will be the third time this year that employees will be laid off from the company. About 40 employees will be laid off from Google News Division. Earlier this year, the company had announced the removal of about 12,000 employees.

Google CNBC has confirmed the layoffs. A company spokesperson said, “We are committed to a better information ecosystem and news is a part of a long-term investment. We have made some changes to create a balance. This has affected some employees. We are helping these employees.” Along with this, he said that the company is investing in top engineering and technical talent and along with this the pace of overall hiring is being reduced. This year there have been layoffs in almost all the big tech companies. These include Amazon, Microsoft, Meta and Intel. Thousands of employees have been fired from all these companies.

In the last few months, Google has been facing difficulties in India. Google had accused the Competition Commission of India (CCI) of ordering Google to change its business model to protect its rival Amazon. Amazon had complained that it was facing difficulties in developing a separate version of the Android system due to the obstructions imposed by Google.

Google had pleaded the Supreme Court to dismiss the CCI order in which the company was asked to make 10 changes in its business model. CCI had found in its investigation that Google was misusing its strong position in the Android operating system market. About 97 percent of smartphones in the country run on Android. In the Supreme Court Google Filings on behalf of Google showed that the company has strongly objected to the manner in which the CCI’s investigation into Android was being conducted. In a petition filed with the tribunal late last year, Google said that the CCI had copied parts of a decision given in Europe in a similar case against the company.
