Google Next month, i.e. in December 2023, lakhs Gmail Accounts Delete The company is talking about doing this. The company has given information through a blog post. This will include those accounts which have not been logged in for a long time, or are not being used. The company has talked about deleting accounts that have been inactive for 2 years. Google’s Vice President of Product Management Ruth Kricheli blog post I have mentioned it in.
So why is Google going to deactivate these accounts? Actually, the company has said that it is going to deactivate these closed accounts to avoid the risk associated with them. Risk because according to Google, the accounts which the user has forgotten or has stopped using may have old and easily cracked passwords, also there is a high possibility of not having two-factor authentication setup in them, and there may be very less security check lock on such accounts. Therefore, they can also be misused by hackers.
The company has said that it is going to update the inactivity policy. Under this, if a Gmail account has not been logged in for 2 or more years, then it can be deactivated. Along with this, the content related to the account will also be deleted, which will include the content of Google Workspace which includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, as well as the content of Google Photos. However, this will not include the accounts of any organization such as a school or business etc.
Google has said that the user must log in to his Gmail account once in 2 years so that the status of the account remains active. It has also said that if the user has recently used his Gmail account to login to any other service, then even in such a situation the account will not be deleted. Google has not confirmed about deleting the accounts related to YouTube videos.
