Government to Soon Present AI Regulations Framework, Will Tackle with Problems like Deepfakes

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has increased in the last few years. However, this is also causing some problems. To deal with this, the central government has decided to make regulations related to AI. The first draft of these regulations can be prepared by July this year.

Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “AI will be used to achieve our goals of economic growth. This will have a big impact on sectors like agriculture and healthcare. We do not want to compete with ChatGPT. We are not going in this direction. The focus will be on many languages ​​of the country.”

The Indian AI market is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25-35 percent to reach $17 billion by 2027. The cases of making fake videos or deepfakes of celebrities with the use of AI have also increased. Recently, the central government had warned social media platforms Facebook and YouTube about deepfakes. Social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube were told that under the law of the country, posting deepfakes and content that spreads obscenity or misinformation is prohibited. Regarding this, Chandrashekhar had said that many social media companies have Rules Despite this, they have not updated the terms and conditions for their users. Under these rules, content that is harmful to children, obscene or imitates another person is banned. Chandrashekhar said that these companies should increase awareness about these rules and tell the users when they log in that they cannot post such content.
