Hyundai sold the most SUVs
It is worth noting that in the first full month after the launch of the 2024 Creta, the SUV has sold 15,276 units, which is the highest sales for the Creta model since its launch in 2015. Hyundai India COO Tarun Garg highlighted the high contribution of the SUV segment to the company’s overall sales performance. Hyundai has sold 67 per cent of SUVs in India this fiscal year as against the industry average of 52 per cent of SUV sales. In the last two months, SUVs have accounted for 64 per cent of Hyundai’s sales, which shows its popularity.
For HMSI, SUVs contributed 67 per cent this fiscal, much higher than the industry average of 52 per cent. The company wants to continue on the same lines, targeting 65 per cent SUV sales by the end of the year. HMIL is experiencing balanced sales between urban and rural areas, with rural sales crossing 20 per cent for the first time in February.
HMIL aims to meet the growing demand with plans to expand production capacity. With a booking backlog of 85 thousand to 1 lakh units in the last 5 months, Hyundai is expected to add 1.5 lakh units to its Pune plant, taking the total capacity to 10 lakh units in the mid-term. Apart from this, HMIL is growing in the electric vehicle segment with initiatives such as installing 11 ultra-fast chargers in several cities and plans to expand to 10 more locations in 2024.
