Kia EV6 Electric SUV 1138 Units Recalled in India Error in ICCU Damaging Battery Heres All Details

Kia India has recalled 1,138 units of its EV6 electric SUV due to a defect in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). This defect is affecting the 12-volt auxiliary battery of the electric car. The recall is not only in India, but it is part of a global action, under which EVs manufactured between March 3, 2022 and April 14, 2023 are being recalled. A defect in the ICCU can lead to a complete loss of driving power. Kia is updating the ICCU software to resolve the issue. Affected customers are being contacted directly.

Kia India has announced the recall of 1,138 units. The company has informed that the models manufactured between March 3, 2022 and April 14, 2023 are being recalled to the service center due to a problem. The problem has been found in the Integrated Charging Control Unit, which is affecting the auxiliary battery pack of the EV. This problem is present in global models and Kia in India The EV6 is imported as a completely built unit (CBU). Hence, the units present in India have also been recalled.

Kia says that the company is updating the software of the Integrated Charging Control Unit on the affected EV6 models to maintain a better ownership experience. Kia India says that it has informed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) about the recall. Customers can also contact their respective Kia dealerships to schedule an appointment for a software update.

USAToday’s Report According to the company, in March this year, Kia recalled 48,232 EV6s in the US. This was due to a similar problem, where there was a risk of loss of driving power. At that time too, Kia had said that “the affected vehicles may experience problems with the Integrated Charging Control Unit, which enables the cars to charge.” According to the company, this problem can damage the ICCU and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can discharge during driving and gradually reduce motive power, which can lead to a total loss of drive power.

In June this year, Hyundai India also recalled 1,744 units of its Ioniq 5 electric SUV. The reason behind this recall was also reported to be a problem in ICCU. The problem was found in units manufactured between July 21, 2022 and April 30, 2024. The special thing here is that while the Kia EV6 is brought to India via CBU, the Ioniq 5 is assembled in India itself.
