The incident came to light when Deepak’s friend Ashish Mishra shared a clip of the incident on Friday. In the video, the two are seen discussing the hefty bill Deepak received. In the viral video, Deepak is seen repeating the amount written on the Uber bill. When Ashish asked him “show me your bill”, Deepak replied “Rs 7,66,83,762.”
As he flashed his phone screen on the camera, it can be seen that Deepak was charged Rs 1,67,74,647 as trip fare. While his waiting time charge was Rs 5,99,09189, Rs 75 was deducted as promotion cost. In the video, Deepak can be heard saying that there should be no waiting charge included in the bill as the driver did not have to wait for him.
A voice can be heard from behind the camera inquiring about the inclusion of GST charges in the bill. Deepak immediately denies that any GST charges were included. Deepak can then be heard joking that he has never counted so many zeros at once before. Ashish then says, “Even if you had booked Chandrayaan, that trip would not have cost you so much.”
Sharing the clip, Ashish wrote, “Early in the morning @Uber_India made @TenguryaDeepak so rich that he is thinking of taking Uber franchise next time. Good thing the trip has not been cancelled yet. Become an instant crorepati debtor by booking an auto for Rs 62.”
Soon after the post went viral, the official Uber India customer support page apologised and claimed that they were looking into the issue. It read, “Sorry to hear about the issue. Please give us some time while we look into the matter for you. We will get back to you with an update.”
