Mobile internet suspended in Manipur: An order has been issued to suspend mobile internet services once again in the North-East state of Manipur. According to a PTI report, a notification said, “The Manipur government has decided to suspend mobile internet data services, internet/data services through VPN in the jurisdiction of the state with immediate effect till 7:45 pm on October 1, 2023.

What is the reason?

The main reason for shutting down mobile internet services in Manipur is said to be the ongoing violence there. According to reports, a few hours after the police lathicharged a crowd protesting against the killing of two youths in the Imphal valley on Tuesday, the Manipur government again banned internet services for the next 5 days.

More than 45 students were injured when police fired tear gas shells and lathicharged a crowd protesting against the killing of two youths in the Imphal valley. Earlier, internet services were suspended in Manipur in early May due to ethnic violence. Internet services were restored there from September 23 after more than 4 months.

Apart from this, another notification states that all government and private schools in the state will remain closed on Wednesday and Friday. It is worth mentioning that the photos of the bodies of two youths went viral on social media, after which the students of schools and colleges in Imphal took out a rally. Their demand was that the accused involved in the murder be arrested. It is said that the youths involved in the rally were moving towards the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. To stop them, the police lathicharged and fired tear gas shells.

Internet services have been suspended in view of the situation.
