Samsung is going to hold its Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 10, in which the company can introduce its flagship smartphone models as well as the upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 smartwatch models. Ahead of this event, the company has announced a new BioActive Sensor present in both its flagship smartwatches. The company says that this sensor has been designed to make the wellness features work better. The new bioactive sensor will provide more accurate insights. In this, Samsung engineers have reportedly focused on three major upgrades, including improving the performance of the light-receiving photodiode, adding more colors of light emitting diodes (LEDs) and optimizing their arrangement in the sensor.

Samsung has informed through a press release that Samsung is going to include a brand new BioActive sensor in the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch 7 models, which will help in providing better health tracking and insights than Watch 6. With this sensor, Samsung wants to make health and wellness easier through better personalized health tracking. The job of this sensor is to provide as accurate health data as possible.

The new bioactive sensor is designed for more accurate insights. Samsung engineers focused on three major upgrades, including improving the performance of the light-receiving photodiodes, adding more colors of light emitting diodes (LEDs), and optimizing their arrangement in the sensor. Samsung claims that the performance of each photodiode has more than doubled, reducing the number needed from eight to four. This redesign made room for extra and varied LEDs, which are now better spaced across the sensor. According to the company, the new sensor includes an increased number of green, red, and infrared LEDs, as well as blue, yellow, violet, and infrared LEDs.

The improved arrangement of green, red and infrared LEDs will enhance the accuracy and performance of the sensor across various health metrics. Samsung has also claimed that the new sensor will measure heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels and stress levels more accurately. Heart rate tracking during intense workouts is now said to be 30 percent more accurate than the previous version.

The changes made to the new sensor will allow the upcoming smartwatch to feature an Advanced Glycation End Product (AGE) index, which will indicate metabolic health and biological aging influenced by lifestyle and diet. This index will act as a biomarker for biological age.
