From December 1, 2023, i.e. the day after tomorrow, Google will start deleting inactive Gmail accounts. Those accounts which have not been active for two years will be deleted. Recently, in a blog post, Google had said that those accounts will be deleted which have not been logged in or are not being used for a long time.

Why are Google accounts being deleted?

Google’s Tell Google is going to delete these inactive accounts to avoid the dangers associated with them. Google says that accounts which the user has forgotten or has stopped using may have old and easily cracked passwords. There is a high possibility of two-factor authentication not being setup in such accounts. These can be misused by hackers.

Google’s updated inactivity policy says that if a Gmail account has not been logged in for 2 or more years, it can be deactivated. Content related to the account will also be deleted, which includes the content of Google Workspace – Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar. Content of Google Photos will also be a part of this. However, accounts of any organization such as institutions, schools, businesses etc. will not be included in this.

Messages are being sent to users associated with the accounts that Google is deleting. These messages are being sent to the Google account and recovery email address. To prevent your Google account from being deleted, you must log in to your Gmail account once every 2 years so that the status of the account remains active.
