India to Become Power in Semiconductor Industry, Government Approved 3 Semiconductor Units

The central government has approved three semiconductor units. The demand for semiconductors has increased rapidly in the last few years. Due to the low number of companies manufacturing it, it is difficult to meet the demand. Construction of three semiconductor units in the country will start soon.

Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “The Prime Minister has taken an important decision to set up a semiconductor unit in the country. The first unit will be of Tata Group and Powerchip-Taiwan. It will be set up in Dholera, Gujarat.” He said that these three units will have a total investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore. Ashwini said, “This will manufacture 50,000 wafers. Its annual manufacturing will be of 300 crore chips. The first semiconductor unit in the Northeast will be in Assam.” These units will provide about 20,000 technology jobs and about 60,000 indirect jobs.

Ashwini said, “With these units, an ecosystem for semiconductors will be established in the country. The country has strong capabilities in chip design. With these units, capabilities will also be created in chip fabrication.” Semiconductors Last year, the central government had announced incentives for the manufacturing of semiconductors. American company Micron Technology also plans to start manufacturing semiconductors in the country. Micron Technology has prepared to set up an advanced semiconductor assembly plant in Sanand, Gujarat. Tata Projects will construct this plant. This plant will be spread over 93 acres. Last year, Prime Minister Modi had announced financial assistance of up to 50 percent from the central government to those setting up semiconductor manufacturing units in the country.

Modi had said that his government has provided many facilities for the semiconductor industry. He said that the semiconductor industry will grow rapidly in the country. An ecosystem is being created for the semiconductor industry. He had said that 300 colleges have been identified to start courses on semiconductor design. Modi said that people’s ambitions were behind every industrial revolution in the world and he believes that India’s ambitions will be the reason for the fourth industrial revolution. Reliance Industries has also planned to enter semiconductor manufacturing. For this Technology The company is in talks with foreign chipmakers for partnerships. However, the company has not decided whether it wants to invest in this sector or not.
