Fine of 10 thousand rupees
A new automatic system is being installed in Pune which will identify vehicles without PUC. Public Accountancy The certificates indicate that the vehicle is complying with emission standards to keep the air clean. The certificates assess the vehicle’s exhaust to measure pollutants such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.
How the system will work
The system will see automatic number plate recognition cameras installed at petrol pumps in Pune. These cameras will scan vehicle registration numbers, seamlessly cross-reference them with a central database to verify the PUC status of all vehicles. If a vehicle’s PUC certificate is found to be expired, drivers will receive an instant fine via SMS directly on their registered mobile phone.
However, there is a certain time limit to pay the challan which can usually last for a day or two. This allows drivers to renew their PUC before being fined. It is worth noting that there is no information yet as to when the authorities will start this. Officials say that they are planning to implement it as soon as possible. Initially, it is planned to be implemented in Pune and if it is successful then it can be implemented in other cities as well.
