of NDTV Report According to the report, three flights were grounded for over three hours and two incoming flights were diverted to Kolkata after air traffic controllers at Imphal airport spotted an unidentified flying object (UFO) near the runway. Not only this, airport authorities closed the airspace in the capital of Manipur as soon as the information was received.
People with direct knowledge of the matter told NDTV that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) handed over the control of the airspace to the Indian Air Force. They said that some people as well as ATC (air traffic control) had spotted the UFO around 2 pm. The object was visible from the roof of the ATC tower and was white in colour. It flew over the terminal building, then moved southwards above the ATC tower and remained stationary there for some time. It then moved towards the south-west of the runway, where it remained till 4.05 pm before disappearing.
“IAF activated its air defence response mechanism based on visual inputs from Imphal airport. The small object was not seen thereafter,” the Eastern Air Command said in a post on X (earlier Twitter).

An official told the channel that all three flights that were held up were taken off only after the “competent authority” granted security clearance. Passengers told the channel that many of them were inside the airport and some inside the aircraft for more than three hours from 3 pm until the flights started taking off around 6.15 pm.
