However, the mini car segment, which includes models like Alto and S-Preso, reached a historic low with sales of only 2,557 units in December 2023, down from 9,765 units in the previous year.
The report shows that the compact segment, which comprises models like Baleno, Celerio, Swift, WagonR, also declined year-on-year and only 45,741 units were sold last month instead of 57,502 units in December 2022.
Maruti Suzuki’s focus on the utility vehicle segment, including models such as Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, appears to have proved beneficial, as the company sold 45,957 units last month as against 33,008 units sold in December last year. Overall, 4,60,588 units were sold in FY23-24 as against 2,60,172 units in the previous fiscal.
Eco is the only van in both PV and CV segments, contributing 10,034 units in December 2023 and a total of 1,36,010 units in CY 2023.
The report further reveals that while domestic passenger vehicle sales declined slightly to 1,04,778 units in December 2023, total domestic sales (PV+CV+OEM) rose marginally to 1,10,667 units from 1,17,551 units in December 2022. However, Maruti Suzuki experienced improved exports, with 26,884 units shipped in December 2023 and a total of 2,69,046 units shipped in CY 2023 from January to December.
